A Growing Church, A Growing Need
When we think of Bible mission and the distribution of Scripture, China often comes to mind first. The Christian population there is large and still growing rapidly. In China’s vast megacities, churches are thriving, while even in small, rural towns hundreds of believers now gather in worship. The need for God’s Word in China is enormous.
The Amity Printing Company in Nanjing, a joint venture between the Amity Foundation and the United Bible Societies, is the largest Bible printer in the world. Since opening in 1988, it has printed over 276 million Bibles - more than 95 million of these for use in China’s churches.
Yet, despite China’s remarkable economic development, many congregations still struggle.
The scale of the challenge is striking. In Jiangsu province, there are around 3,000 registered churches but only 1,000 trained priests. With approximately 17 percent of the local population identifying as Christian, many congregations depend on lay leaders - elders, preachers, and deacons - to guide them.
Most of China’s 60,000+ congregations are led by volunteers. These faithful leaders need encouragement, training, and resources to help them serve well and guard against inaccurate teaching. Bible Society supports these leaders by providing study Bibles, training gatherings, and other discipleship materials.
Out of China’s 1.4 billion people, around 1.25 billion still do not know Jesus.
“The need for the Gospel is enormous in China.” - Bernard Low, Director of the UBS China Partnership.
Because of local laws, foreign Bible Societies can’t operate directly in China. Instead, the UBS China Partnership, based in Singapore, works in close cooperation with Chinese authorities and registered churches. All Bibles distributed in China are printed in China and are available in church bookshops nationwide - open to anyone who wishes to buy one.
Thanks to people like you, God’s Word is reaching millions of Chinese people who long to know Him.
Pray for China
Pray for pastors and lay leaders who serve faithfully, often with little training or support.
Pray for the resources needed to keep printing and distributing Bibles at affordable prices.
Pray that more people across China will encounter the living Word of God and come to faith in Jesus.
